Door opening and cabinet width
The cabinet internal width, depth and door opening decide which unit fits. A unit made for one opening will not work in another, so choose the unit before the carcass is cut.
How magic corner and corner pull-out systems work, how to pick the right type and what to confirm before the carcass is cut.
A magic corner is a pull-out system for a blind corner base cabinet: the front baskets swing out with the door and the rear baskets slide forward, so everything stored in the corner comes to the opening. It replaces a fixed shelf, which leaves most of a corner cabinet out of reach. Mirano's kitchen fittings range includes corner pull-outs and magic-corner mechanisms, and this guide covers how they work, which corner solution suits which layout, and what to confirm with the supplier before ordering.
A corner base cabinet in an L-shaped kitchen has a door opening on one side and a blind side that runs behind the neighbouring cabinet. With a fixed shelf, the items you put in the back are the ones you cannot reach.
A magic corner solves this with two sets of baskets. The front set is linked to the door and swings clear of the opening. The rear set rides on a runner and slides forward into the space the front set has left. Both layers are then at the opening, and both return when you close the door.
The same idea is sold under different names, including magic corner, corner pull-out and swing-out corner. If a drawing or BOQ calls it by one of these names, check the mechanism rather than the label.

A magic corner is one of four ways to fit out a corner base cabinet. The right one depends on the door opening, the cabinet size and what will be stored.

Like for like, based on how each system moves.
| Solution | How it works | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Magic corner | Front baskets swing out, rear baskets slide forward | Blind corner with a narrower door opening | Needs a handed unit and a planned door opening |
| Blind corner pull-out | The whole unit slides out in a straight line | Corners where the door opens wide and the cabinet is deep | The pull-out has to clear the neighbouring cabinet front |
| Revolving carousel | Round or kidney-shaped shelves rotate on a post | Corners with a wide door where round shelves use the space well | Round shelves waste the square corners |
| Fixed shelf | No mechanism | Rarely used corners and low budgets | The back of the corner is hard to reach |
General guide to how these systems work. Confirm sizes and load ratings for the specific model before you specify it.
Settle these four points on the drawing first. They decide which systems are even possible.
The cabinet internal width, depth and door opening decide which unit fits. A unit made for one opening will not work in another, so choose the unit before the carcass is cut.
Magic corner units are handed. The hand follows the corner layout and where the door is hinged, so mark it on the drawing.
Heavy cookware needs a higher rated load and should sit in the lowest baskets. Light dry goods can go in the upper ones. Match the load rating of the system to the heaviest items.
Glass baskets are solid and heavier. Wire baskets are lighter and let air through. Check the finish, the rim height and whether the base is solid or open.
Send this list to the supplier with your drawing.
| Item | Why it matters | Ask for |
|---|---|---|
| Cabinet internal width and depth | Decides whether the unit fits the carcass | Dimensioned drawing and the minimum cabinet size |
| Door opening width | The baskets have to clear the opening | Required door opening |
| Left or right hand | The unit is handed | Hand options for your layout |
| Rated load | Sets what can be stored safely | Load per basket and per set |
| Soft-close and door fittings | Affects daily use and installation | Whether the door fittings are included |
| Finish and basket material | Matches the kitchen and the use | Available finishes and basket options |
Most corner problems start on the drawing.
The unit sets the cabinet size and the door opening. Choose it first, then build the cabinet around it.
A left-opening unit will not fit a right-opening corner. Check the hand against the layout.
The upper baskets carry less safely and are harder to lift from. Heavy cookware belongs in the lowest set.
Magic corner, corner pull-out and swing-out can mean different mechanisms. Ask for the drawing.
Mirano's kitchen fittings range lists corner pull-outs and magic-corner mechanisms next to its pull-out systems, which also include larder, swing-out pantry and base pull-out units. Models, sizes, hand options and finishes for corner units are shared on request, so send your cabinet width, hand and quantity through the quote form.
