G Profile Handle Size Guide — Length, Thickness and Cut Size (mm and Inches)

What "size" means for an aluminium edge handle, the numbers Mirano publishes, and how to turn them into cut lengths for a real kitchen.

The short answer

A G profile handle is supplied in 3 m lengths (about 9.8 ft or 118 in) and cut to the width of each shutter or drawer front. Mirano publishes 18 mm panel thickness for the G-Section and Eureka J, and most profile handles suit boards of 16 to 19 mm. Groove width and section depth are not published, so confirm them in the datasheet before detailing.

"G profile handle size" is one of the most searched questions about edge handles, and it has at least five different answers depending on what the person means. A supplier may be quoting a length, a carpenter asks about thickness, and a designer wants the groove depth. When these get mixed up, profiles arrive that do not fit the board.

This guide separates the five meanings of size, gives the length conversions in mm, inches and feet, shows how to work out cut lengths with a worked example, and lists what to measure on site. The product figures come from Mirano's published G profile handle page, and anything not published is marked as such.

The five things "size" can mean

TermWhat it isWhat Mirano publishes
Extrusion lengthThe full length the profile is supplied in3 m for G-Section and Eureka J
Cut lengthThe piece cut for one shutter or drawer front, equal to its widthCut to size; depends on your fronts
Panel thicknessThe board the profile fixes into, including facing18 mm; 16–19 mm typical; 25 mm-compatible profile may be needed for heavier shutters
Groove width and depthThe finger channel in the sectionNot published; confirm in the datasheet
Projection on the faceHow far the profile stands out from the frontNot published; confirm in the datasheet

T-Patti sizes, groove width and panel thickness are also not published and should be confirmed when quoting.

Length

G profile handle length in mm, inches and feet

Mirano supplies the G-Section and the Eureka J in 3 m lengths. Many marketplace listings quote "10 ft" instead, and the two are not the same: 10 ft is 3,048 mm, which is 48 mm longer than 3 m. If you plan cuts against one and receive the other, the last piece on a length can come up short.

LengthmmcmInchesFeet
3 m (Mirano published)3,000300118.19.84
10 ft (common listing unit)3,048304.812010
2.4 m2,40024094.57.87
1.2 m1,20012047.23.94

Conversions are arithmetic: 1 in = 25.4 mm and 1 ft = 304.8 mm. Confirm which unit your supplier is quoting before you order.

Thickness

Panel thickness: 16, 18, 19 and 25 mm

Mirano's product page lists 18 mm as the panel thickness for the G-Section and Eureka J, and notes that most profile handles are made for shutter boards of 16 mm to 19 mm. Heavier tall-unit or wardrobe shutters may need a profile that is compatible with 25 mm.

The number that matters is the thickness of the finished panel at the edge, not the nominal board. Laminate, veneer, edge banding and any lipping can change it by a millimetre or more, which is enough to make a profile loose or tight. Measure the actual shutter with a caliper and record it per batch.

19 mm190.75
25 mm250.98

Cut length

Working out cut length for a kitchen

A profile handle runs the full width of the front it serves, so the cut length follows the shutter or drawer width. The job is then to group the fronts so each 3 m length is used with as little waste as possible.

Illustrative example (numbers are for explanation, not Mirano specifications): ten drawer fronts, each 596 mm wide. Five pieces make 2,980 mm. Allowing 3 mm per saw cut (check your own blade) for four cuts adds 12 mm, giving 2,992 mm, which fits inside one 3,000 mm length with 8 mm to spare. Ten fronts therefore need two lengths.

Fronts of different widths need a short cutting plan. List all widths, group them so each group totals just under 2,990 mm, and order one extra length if several groups leave awkward remainders. Cut test pieces first when corners are mitred at 45°, because the long edge of a mitre is longer than the front width.

  • List widths from the cutting list: Use finished front widths, not carcass widths.
  • Add saw loss per cut: Use your blade width. Treat the 3 mm above as a placeholder only.
  • Plan mitres separately: Corner pieces need cutting from the outside dimension and are best tested on an offcut.
  • Add a spare length: A short allowance saves a second delivery if a piece is mis-cut.

Before ordering

What to measure and confirm before you order

  • Finished panel thickness: Measure at several points with a caliper and compare it against the 16–19 mm range and the 18 mm published value.
  • Which section: G-Section, Eureka J, T-Patti, Slim C or Slim J each have their own datasheet.
  • Unit of the quote: Per piece, per 3 m length, per 10 ft or per foot. Convert before comparing.
  • Finish and batch: Order the whole run in one batch to limit colour variation, and confirm the finish on a sample.
  • Caps and connectors: Add end caps and matching connectors for mitred corners.
  • Datasheet: Request it for groove width, depth and fixing detail. Mirano supplies it on request.

Mirano range

Sizes across the Mirano profile range

The G-Section and Eureka J are published at 3 m length and 18 mm panel thickness. For the T-Patti, Slim C and Slim J, sizes, groove width and panel thickness are not published, so ask the team for the datasheet when quoting.

For how G and J sections differ in shape, read G profile vs J profile handle. For what drives the cost of a length, see the G profile handle price guide. The full range is on the aluminium profiles page.

Clear answers

Frequently asked questions

What is the standard size of a G profile handle?

Mirano supplies the G-Section and Eureka J in 3 m lengths for 18 mm panels. The profile is then cut to the width of each shutter or drawer front.

What is the G profile handle size in mm?

The length is 3,000 mm and the published panel thickness is 18 mm. Groove width and section depth are not published; confirm them in the datasheet.

What is the G profile handle size in inches?

3 m is about 118.1 inches (9.84 ft) and 18 mm is about 0.71 inch. A "10 ft" listing is 120 inches, which is longer than 3 m.

Is a G profile 10 ft or 3 m?

Mirano publishes 3 m. Many marketplace listings use 10 ft, which is 3,048 mm. Confirm the unit before comparing quotes or planning cuts.

Which board thickness suits a G profile handle?

Most profile handles suit 16 to 19 mm boards, and Mirano publishes 18 mm for the G-Section and Eureka J. Heavier shutters may need a profile compatible with 25 mm.

How do I find the cut length for a drawer front?

Use the finished width of the front. For mitred corners, cut from the outside dimension and test on an offcut first.

Do I need to order extra length?

Usually yes. Plan the cuts against 3 m lengths, allow for saw loss and add a spare piece so a mis-cut does not hold up the job.

Can the profile be cut on site?

Profiles are cut to size and mitred at 45° with matching connectors. Follow the datasheet for the fixing method and use clean, accurate cuts for corners.

What are the sizes of Slim C and Slim J?

Sizes are not published on the product page. Ask Mirano for the datasheet when quoting.
